Disneyland of My Mind

I am a fan of Disney parks. I am also (probably) autistic. Disney theme parks have been a bit of a fixation and interest for me since I was 8 years old, when I had access to the internet and would sit on my butt and read about theme parks all day long. So, naturally, I've had various dreams about Disneyland.

But as is the nature of the dream, these Disney parks are warped in my mind, almost to the point of them being their own creation instead of an interpretation. So, this is me attempting to document these various versions of the park and sort them out into their own categories – what rides are attributed to which version of which park? Let's find out together.

The Main Disneyland (Back to Top)

For all intents and purposes, this is the main Disneyland I tend to visit in my dreams. It has a lot of different variations in its lands, and I'm not sure if they're maybe tied to another Disneyland variant in general, so I'll be lumping most things here, unless I know that they are tied to a different variant.

Narrow Main Street // Main Street, U.S.A. (Back to Top)

This Main Street is very narrow, and a lot more like an English street than something like 1920s America. Shops are jam-packed on the sides, and the street is long with some branching off areas. There's like a small square you pass through before getting to the center of Main Street and when I mean small, I mean like this is a square that's as twice as wide as the normal street.

I remember in one dream I went into a shop here as I was exiting the park. This shop was themed to a lot of 90s merch, but I also found some non-Disney stuff here, mostly related to Nintendo 64 games (like Diddy Kong Racing and Snowboard Kids.) I think I bought a shirt?

The streets get crowded really fast, since they're so narrow. I remember it was after the fireworks one dream and you straight up could not get out of the dang park because the crowds were so thick, so I hung around until they loosened up.

Gates of Main Street // Main Street, U.S.A. (Back to Top)

This may be related to Narrow Main Street, but I've given its own section/variant just to be safe. In one version of this Disneyland, there was a brick wall with a gate that separated Fantasyland from Main Street. It was not super medieval or anything, but it was nicely decorated and not very modern. Maybe describing it as a "fantasy castle type wall" is a better way to put it? It's got a little interior section to walk through before making it through to the other side. I'd say it's like double or triple the length of the "interior" of Sleeping Beauty Castle IRL.

Not much to say here, just a really distinct landmark in my mind.

Vast Fantasyland // Fantasyland (Back to Top)

For whatever reason, Fantasyland in this version of Disneyland is always exceedingly vast, with big wide open paths and flat rides like the teacups or carousel just randomly strewn about. There is so much open space to move around here, it feels really off.

On occasions, there's a parade going on, and since there's so much dang space to walk on, they don't really rope off the area or path. You can go right up next to the floats if you want.

Sometimes, Vast Fantasyland doubles as the entrance to the park. Other times, there is a Main Street "strip", just a small entrance area that connects to Fantasyland. Usually, in cases of there not being a Main Street, Sleeping Beauty Castle is front and center to the entrance, in lieu of the Main Street train station. Some instances have a stage area that you can go and goof off around on when there's no shows in progress.

Ride Next to the Entrance // Snow White & DLRR

In most dreams where the castle is the entrance landmark, there has been a ride tucked up and against it, to the left, between it and the park entrance. In one dream, this ride was some kind of little train ride, maybe meant to emulate the Disneyland Railroad. In another dream, it was some weird version of Snow White. I think when it was Snow White, there was a moat of some kind.

For both rides, I think it's meant to be some kind of tiny ride for children? Because when I mean tiny, I mean, dear god, nobody over the age of 6 years old would be able to fit on this ride, but you could technically go on it, I guess. I'm not sure I ever saw people go on this ride, it seems kind of forgotten about by park goers.

Split Adventureland // Adventureland (Back to Top)

This is probably one of my favorite land variants my dreams have created. The Two-Half Adventureland is a large jungle split in two with a large river running through it; I think this meant to be the Rivers of America? I'm not sure. Buildings and structures here are themed to stone temple ruins, with overgrown vines and moss all over the place. Everything is covered in green. The water here is SO blue, it's so pretty. I want to live here.

In my dream there were two main buildings: on the left half of the river was a temple with some kind of walkthrough exhibit. I can't really remember what was in this, just that it was all jungley too and you had to climb up rocks or do some running and jumping to really fully explore the place. Outside of this building, there was a waterfall that spat out of it and down into the river below. You could cross over this bit that leads to the river on a rope bridge. From up there, you can also get just an incredible view of the area, because it's lifted up quite a bit higher than the other side of the river.

Speaking of, the other side of the river had a temple building that I believe housed the Indiana Jones ride. To cross over this river, you had to hop across on these gigantic flat stones that led you across. Pretty sure they were covered in water, so they were pretty slippery.

If you followed the river one way, it led you to a sheer waterfall that poured down to god knows what. Not sure what connected to this Adventureland from the other ways...

Massive Adventureland // Adventureland (Back to Top)

This was a large jungle Adventureland with dirt paths and really spread out buildings and attractions. It's basically big enough to be its own theme park. It may have had animal exhibits or something? Or like, large play structures for kids? I just remember going in one and getting a bit lost...

In this dream I was trying to meet up with friends from online. We finally found each other and went shopping together at these semi-outdoor bazaar type shops. Once we were done with that, we decided to take the Jungle Cruise down to the Haunted Mansion, which was a part of this and was all the way down, at the very end of a dead end. I think the Jungle Cruise dropped us off at a certain point and we had to walk the rest of the way?

Indiana Jones had his own ride but I did not go into it; I think my brain basically took the Mayan-inspired exterior of the one at Tokyo and planted it down here.

Transport Jungle Cruise // Jungle Cruise

This was this land's own transport ride, a la Disneyland Railroad. Rather than ride on one of the actual Jungle Cruise boats, though, you had a boat that was relatively big, with smokestacks and all – perhaps TOO big for this area, but my brain does what it wants, I guess. This rides around the loop of the river that Adventureland is built off of and gets you around to places that would otherwise take forever to get to because of how large the land is.

Junction Tomorrowland // Tomorrowland (Back to Top)

Junction Tomorrowland is probably the earliest version of Disneyland I can remember? I'm sure I've dreamt a lot about the parks, but this felt like the first time I actually paid attention to my dreams and the designs they were coming up with, because it was just very visually striking to me at the time. Everything was blue. I'm not sure if that was just because it was night time or not, but everything was bathed in a really vibrant dark blue. It looked really cool.

This is a high-tech city-esque Tomrrowland with tall buildings. It gets its name from the fact that the main strip you walk down is basically a street intersection area, with crosswalks and everything, but no cars. I remember approaching from the bottom of the intersection and walking into the center. If you keep going forward, it leads you into more of Tomorrowland, like the main central hub or whatever, where you can find the rides. Going left takes you into more city space you can explore, but it gets really vague out there; I believe if you stick to the street though, it will take you to a path that leads you to... an Adventureland..? Not sure about the right path.

Immediate Drop Space Mountain // Space Mountain

This version of Space Mountain isn't very special, just that you load onto the ride, it begins, and you're immediately sent down the first drop of the ride. Not much to really. I think I either rode this with Hannah Montana or the music was Hannah Montana. I don't even like Hannah Montana, why is she in my dream.

Open Tomorrowland // Tomorrowland (Back to Top)

This version of Tomorrowland is a bit vague in my mind, but I can pick out some details. It's pretty wide open with lots of walking space. There's a lot of retaining walls around that are made of concrete and are curved in shape; they also slope down to the ground and don't have raised edges that suddenly end. So, everything had a very sleek, futuristic look to it.

I remember a Space Mountain shop built into the base of the structure that Space Mountain's building was atop of. I remember looking around at merch and I might have bought a shirt. Space Mountain itself does not look like the IRL version. I can't remember what it looked like, unfortunately.

Tubed Space Mountain // Space Mountain

This is a VERY weird version of the ride. Rather than your standard steel coaster, the tubed version is like a hanging coaster where you sit inside these pods that enclose around you. Then, the vehicle and track itself is encased in a big tube, that intermittently had windows on it so you could see out. I genuinely could not tell you why this would be a ride you would want to go on. It looks and sounds miserable.

There are actually two versions of this. For whatever reason, my brain really likes the idea of Tube Space Mountain. One version is entirely indoors and I believe has inversions. I don't really actually know what version of Tomorrowland it goes with. The second, however, had outdoor parts, and I think that this version was a part of Smooth and Curvy Tomorrowland. I could be wrong, but my gut intuition tells me to put it there.

The Tiniest Pirates Area You Have Ever Seen // Original Area (Back to Top)

This is an original area my dreams made up solely for Pirates of the Caribbean. It's basically a very small Spanish village that is four buildings with a central square area between them, and that's about it. There's like basically a puddle of water in the square and you can take a bridge to walk over it if you don't want to get your feet set. It's... very sad. I don't know why it's so small and worthless. The water feature is a total joke.

Maze POTC // Pirates of the Caribbean

This version of Pirates, I never got to ride. It turns out the queue was a total maze and I got lost in it. It was pretty extensive too – it has like three or four "levels" to it, and cast members were roaming it dressed up as skeletal pirates. It had some kind of video game thing going on with it, because I think the pirates had experience levels? Honestly, maybe the maze was the ride...

Crusty POTC // Pirates of the Caribbean

Imagine Pirates if it was more narrow and dusty and full of cobwebs. Everything looks like it wants to fall apart, and the driftwood is made of actual driftwood. This relatively hits the same beats of the original ride. I remember the drop being in it, except it was actually super sketchy and scary, and that there were a lot of ruined pirate miscellanea scattered around.

Miscellaneous Rides Not Tied to a Specific Land (Back to Top)

The following rides I cannot place a specific land variant to. They have existed in my dreams at one point in time and their memory remains. Maybe in the future I can ascertain where they might sit in the landscape of Main Disneyland.

Cool Queue Indiana Jones // Indiana Jones Adventure

This was a version of Indiana Jones that is very similar to the actual ride in Disneyland. However, it has a really crazy, cool queue that takes you into the center of a red temple, with lots of fire and decor that might have been kind of dangerous if it was real. It makes me think of the sacrifice scene in Temple of Doom.

The cool thing about this version is that the ride had a boulder chase set piece, where you rode down a slope and a giant boulder actually chased you. It would reset properly for each car that came by, and it was pretty convincing! You could see this set piece from the queue, as it was up above everything else in the far distance, with pillars that semi-blocked your view to provide visual separation.

Indiana Jones Queue that KILLS YOU // Indiana Jones Adventure

I'm not sure what the actual ride was like for this version of Indiana Jones, but the queue was... pretty insane.

Actually, the normal queue was fine, all things considered. It was the short queue that was insane. If you got bored of waiting in the queue and wanted to try and skip forward in the line, you could attempt to take the DIFFICULT, SCARY, POTENTIALLY FATAL SHORT QUEUE. It's cramped and stressful to be in, with spikes that pop out of the floors and walls, fire that spits out at you, small holes to crawl through, poisonous gas that gets released – all sorts of booby traps that WOULD ACTUALLY KILL YOU AND THE PARK IS OKAY WITH THIS.

...I don't think anybody actually died. But um, they should have.

Movie Blend Dark Ride // Original Ride

...I cannot remember what movie this dark ride was based on. I think it may have been a mix, because I want to try and pin it to Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty all in one. I think it may have been Sleeping Beauty, because I went on it and remember thinking "I'm glad this has a ride now."

The ride itself was pretty cheap in product values and had a storybook aesthetic, kind of like it was built in the 60s. It also was partially built into the Matterhorn and rode through the base of it, popping in and out at times.

Omnimover Cars "Dark" Ride

This was a dark ride of sorts themed to Cars, based on offroading. Maybe my brain was influenced by how they're replacing the Rivers of America with Cars in Magic Kingdom. Gross. It was kind of like you were on an omnimover vehicle and viewing diorama scenes of Cars characters out in a desert... maybe Radiator Springs? I'm not sure, I just remember the ride and vehicle types.

I think this may have been located near the Scary Splash Mountain. It was tucked away in a back corner, and the locale felt similar to how Scary Splash Mountain's queue has been depicted in my dreams. I think there may have also been another Cars ride, some kind of Top Spin-like flat ride, but memories of that are hazy – just that there was a second ride with it.

Swamp Indiana Jones // Indiana Jones Adventure

What if Indiana Jones was, instead of a jeep-based thrill ride, a hanging coaster with glider theming that took you through a PS1-foggy swamp? I have no clue. There were alligators.

Scary Splash Mountain // Splash Mountain

This is a more intense version of Splash Mountain that lacked the Song of the South theming. Instead of bunny rabbits and turtles singing to you, it's a really chaotic log flume ride where you're being chased by alligators and bears – and really monstrous looking ones, not cartoon animals.

The final drop is ludicrous – you get jumpscared by the animals chasing you, and they straight up actually chase you along the walls and stuff as you're spiraling down through the water. I think there's even like a ramp jump at the end of it? I don't know why my dreams are obsessed with trying to make situations that would kill you if it was real.

Thrilling Haunted Mansion // The Haunted Mansion

All of my Haunted Mansion variants are kind of strange, but they do mostly follow this format: you move through large rooms in your Doom Buggy, which themed to specific things, such as a trophy room or a seating lounge with a fireplace, but are basically viewable in any direction. The rooms are full of just crap and decor and there's lots to see, so you're expected to turn your head around to see everything and do multiple ride-throughs to see everything.

You may be asking why this is called "Thrilling"... this is because the rides have a steep angled drop at some point, like your ride vehicle flips its lid and freaks out and stuff. The drop is steep and very fast and kind of stressful to be on.

Water-Based Buzz Lightyear // Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters (Back to Top)

At first, this version of Astro Blasters attempted to stay true to the real-world ride. I tried to center my dream so that it was replicating the real ride rather than making stuff up. Ultimately, I failed and my dream took control.

It turned from the track-ride type thing it is IRL to a water coaster type thing, with lift hills and stuff. You still have a blaster and shoot at targets, and I actually remember my brain stuck to the shapes and colors of the actual ride – blue triangles and purple diamonds give the most points.

The whole game portion of the ride was a lot more involved, though. Aside from point targets, there were also ones that awarded certain power-ups that affected your play. The power-ups actually don't do much... unless you know what you are doing, because the real point gain from this game is figuring out the various puzzles in each room and sort of triggering their solution to get the most possible points you can.

For example, in the first room, there was a series of targets that were connected together by some kind of electrical current at the top of the room. This current randomly lengthened and shortened until almost all were connected together. You could either fire at the "connector" target that activated the current and gave you points according to what was lit up at the time... or if you had the Jolteon Power-Up (??????) you use that on the connector target and it overloads the current and gives you the max score you could from that puzzle.

I don't remember any other specific puzzles, but there was a large long room you floated through that was really industrial and had a lot of moving parts. I think there was a series of targets here you could activate in a certain order that revealed a series of high-point targets at the end? Not sure.

After this industrial room was a large drop that was meant to be like a waterfall. This room was a bit short and it was full of mist, making it hard to see much, but there were point targets in here that were very lucrative if you fired at them.

Also I remember after going on this ride a few times that you could get an exclusive hat from going on the ride, and I asked a cast member about it, and they said "oh yeah, sure, here you go," and they handed me a wavy french fry instead. I ate it.

The Happy Disneyland (Back to Top)

I'm not sure what to call this one. "Happy" was a placeholder, based on how pretty it is to walk around in, but it's kind of sticking with me. Happy Disneyland, it is.

This one is a lot less vast than the other Disneyland is, with lots of decor and plantlife around. I'm not sure this one has a proper Fantasyland or castle, but I suppose that remains to be seen as I continue to dream.

I think I have dreamt of attending a Halloween event here? I remember there was a dream that involved going in costume, so I believe this must be the case.

Rebuilt Tomorrowland (Back to Top)

This Tomorrowland is one that had been given a dramatic facelift over its old design (old design is unknown, my brain is just creating Lore.) This is named as such because the redesign is apparent if you knew where to look, and I was very excited and fixated on seeing the old details and remnants. I'm a bit of a park history nerd, if you can't tell.

There are a lot of round, "fun" design elements, but I think the total space was sort of inspired by parts of Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland? You can tell the place is geared towards kids. This is also made apparent as there are various hands-on interactive bits you can mess with... imagine an outdoor Innoventions that was more focused on actual science and education, rather than Sega video games and advertising dishwashers to tired moms. It's kind of a cool idea, but I was unimpressed in my dream, which is baffling considering how much I adore retro Epcot Center.

There is an indoor part that had something going on inside, but details are fleeting. It wasn't a ride, but an interior space that I think was being used for some kind of convention? No idea.

Another part of this Tomorrowland was a large amphitheater at the rear of the land, which houses performance shows... maybe similar to stuff at Sea World and whatnot? Not sure, just that the performance venue was large and sunken down, with a concrete wall akin to a dam of sorts. In my dream, I walked along the dam-like wall before waking up.

Unknown Dark Rides // Original Rides

There was a dark ride here that was literally built over a defunct attraction – as in, the old attraction was still there and you could just go in it if you had access. You could see the old doors on the ride still and I was so excited and also kind of bummed that I couldn't go on the old ride.

I think maybe in another dream I had a chance to go on the defunct ride, and that was also a dark ride that was about communication? But not really in the way that Spaceship Earth is, but more technical information about how phones and long distance calls work. I remember one room that had metal walls, with a white and blue color scheme, and a catwalk flooring. There was a basic animatronic here that was a lady with brown 80s poofy hair and a big smile on her face.

Happy Toontown (Back to Top)

I don't visit Toontown much in my dreams... but this one was overly exaggerated with cartoon features. So, I suppose, not much different from actual Toontown.

For some reason there was a Star Wars themed ride back here. I didn't go in it, but it was like an old overgrown Jedi Temple. I think maybe it was something related to Star Tours? I don't know why it was in Toontown. I think I was here with family and an uncle went on it and I was sitting on the edge of a planter, holding his water bottle.

Spinning Vehicles Ride // Original Ride

This was some kind of spinning ride with old-timey vehicles that took place in a character's garage. It wasn't a dark ride, but I think it may have still had visual set pieces of some kind, but it was very bright and not dark, so it wasn't trying to really avert your eyes. Basically just an indoor flat ride.

Viewliner in the Water (Back to Top)

Not sure what land this was tied to, but there was a lagoon out in the park somewhere that sort of wrapped around to the entrance too. I think maybe it was meant to be Fantasyland, but there were no rides or anything tying it to Fantasyland really... just that it connected to a Toontown.

This is sort of like a weird hybrid of the submarines with the old Viewliner, and it connected from outside the park near the entrance to the center of the park I suppose. I think it was built on a rail and the vehicle hung down underneath it, so you could see fish and stuff in the water. I went on it a few times and talked to the cast members working on it about its historical relevance and stuff.

Backends of Happy Disneyland (Back to Top)

Exploring the behind the scenes parts of Disneyland is always a toss-up for how my brain will interpret it. The most distinct time I remember this happening involved walking through semi-outdoor areas with really tall walls and a lot of colorful shipping containers strewn about. I didn't have to be worried about being caught by cast members, but I also still think I wasn't really meant to be back there.

The Lagoon Disneyland (Back to Top)

This one is... pretty distinct, but also relatively small in comparison to other parks my dreams have created. This is some weird version of Disneyland that is just a large lagoon. It has two gates, for whatever reason, so you can enter from the front or the back.

I seriously cannot remember anything else about this aside from that it was A Big Lagoon and there was a Jungle Cruise.

Tiny Jungle Cruise (Back to Top)

Dear god, it's so small. This version of Jungle Cruise is like the size of my backyard when you view it from the exterior, but somehow it is a rideable ride. The rivers are like 3-4 feet wide, and you sit on logs or something that float down the river, so your legs are dunked in the water.

I believe the one time I experienced this, it was meant to have some kind of promotional crossover with a new movie of the time? Can't remember the movie, just that it did not suit the vibe of the ride.

The World's Saddest Toontown (Back to Top)

This was a recent one. This is a Toontown with literally nothing in it, basically. There's like one or two cartoony buildings, but everything else is just flat, boring, gray concrete. Features include:

  • vending machines,
  • a hot dog cart,
  • and a Star Wars meet and greet with Darth Vader. Wow.
  • No rides, no fun characters, nothing.

Given its own section because it had overlap with another dream I had involving an arcade that was a scam and trapped people within, luring them in with this really extravagant, technologically-impressive VR experience. Sort of a "help, we're trapped in the MMO!" type situation. So, not in any existing park.

The Main California Adventure (Back to Top)

Somehow, I only have one California Adventure in my dreams. I have multiple of Disneyland, multiple of Epcot Center, but just one for DCA. That's fine, I guess.

Downhill Hollywood Land (Back to Top)

Somehow this is one of my most visited, most thought out areas of any dream Disney park. Hollywood Land in this is this downhill street of buildings that branches off in a few spots. At the bottom of the hill is a viewing point where you overlook a giant bay area, probably the waterfront that the park is built on. Sometimes there are rocks jutting out the edge, sometimes there is a stone brick space here for viewing, sometimes there is some structure out in the water to view.

The main landmark in this version of Hollywood Land is an indoor section you can pass through if you take a right like halfway down the street; this is full of indoor shops and restaurants, like an indoor mall food court type thing. Lots of glass, kind of a modern design. Past this, you can walk out to a long park-type area, with flat ground, places to sit, and rectangular pools of water to view. I think there was some structure above some of this that was like an Eiffel Tower-esque thing? I have been here multiple times, it is basically just a park area and nothing more, but it's pleasant and there are always people there.

Down near the bottom of Hollywood Land is a left you can take to a pathway that leads along the waterfront and to another area of the park. I'm not sure where it connects to, but this is an area of the park that has historically been sort of a "graveyard" for attractions – things will be put in, last like 2 years, and then be removed. Across the water there are either buildings that have nothing to do with Disneyland or just rock and grass and dirt. I distinctly remember dreaming about walking down a path on that side of the waterfront, and being able to look over and see the park.

Top Flat Ride // Original Ride

At the top of the hill, sort of as you come into the area – which makes passage a bit cramped, tbh – is some kind of flat ride there... perhaps spinny in nature? I think one time it was something suspended in the air that moved between both sides of this space. I guess a cousin to that of Astro Orbitor at Disneyland? The area in which it is is kind of town square-style, definitely meant to be the entrance area to Hollywood Land.

Apartment Building Inverted Coaster // Original Ride

A mostly-indoor inverted coaster with inversions that have you temporarily popping out of the top of the building at their apex. It looked like a brick apartment building of some sort. Sometimes Marvel-themed? I distinctly remember one time it was Hulk-themed.

Waterfront Coaster // Original Ride

This was a steel coaster that went along the water, in the "graveyard" section. It was only in operation for a couple of years and had a lot of technical issues, possibly due to the fact it was right on the water or something. I went on it once, then in later dreams, the track was just left there, until it finally disappeared. My brain made up that this was like a really contentious attraction in the theme park community, with very strange history attached to it, but it was a popular topic because of those reasons – sort of like "baby's first defunct attraction" when dipping your toes into theme park history.

The track was red, I don't know why I distinctly remember the color. I imagine that if you look closely, you can still see the concrete supports for the old coaster supports in the water.

Temporary Tron Experience // elecTRONica

An outdoor experience type thing for Tron Legacy, probably inspired by elecTRONica, just a temporary thing that was there to advertise the in-dream, upcoming film. Might have been a laser tag thing? I'm not certain, but it was outdoor and kind of arena-like. This was held in an area with a bit of an overhang dock above the water, where you would have been able to stand above some of the track for the waterfront coaster.

There was another building nearby, one that was not temporary, but I don't think I went in and can't remember what it was supposed to be for.

Miscellaneous Rides Not Tied to a Specific Land (Back to Top)

The following rides I cannot place a specific land variant to. They have existed in my dreams at one point in time and their memory remains. Maybe in the future I can ascertain where they might sit in the landscape of Main California Adventure.

Enviromentally-Friendly Water Ride // Original Ride

This is a weird one, and I think I might know what it stems from. Meant to be in Grizzly Peak across from Soarin', maybe meant to be a mental replacement with GRR? I'm not too sure. I've dreamt of this one multiple times and I think each time has done something slightly different with it, but it still sticks out to me...

This ride has some kind of history behind it... it only lasted a year or two and had some weird situation with it. I'm struggling to explain this. Kind of a similar vibe to the Unknown Dark Ride of Rebuilt Tomorrowland where there was some historical thing going on with it, and so it made me really excited/intrigued. I think it may also have been some temporary/overlay thing, like it was just a lazy retheme over an existing ride they were trying to reuse the space for.

It has a walkthrough exhibit portion of some kind that's maybe part of the queue but also part of the experience... The story had some kind of environmental message behind it. I might be misremembering but I think there was some kind of animal or mythical creature involved.

It was a mostly indoor thrill ride of some kind... with some dark ride elements, but then sheer vertical drops (think: floor giving out under you) and water. Maybe it's meant to take place within the Grizzly Peak mountain itself? I don't remember that much about it, but I remember going on it multiple times each time I dreamt about it. Recently I dreamt of it and I did not go on it, but I remembered passing by it and being like "oh that's that ride! Yeah, that ride. I remember that."

Downtown Disney (Back to Top)

I won't really make sections here, just a list of weird stuff I've dreamt about Downtown Disney:

  • There was a hotel capsule type thing you could stay in that was impossibly small. Think TARDIS-style "bigger on the inside" type thing. The exterior was basically 20 x 20 feet, but you could sleep like 3 in each section. Pretty uncomfortable and really noisy. This is like the cheapest sleeping option you could feasibly have.
  • World of Disney exists but is probably like 30% bigger. Usually sells more than just Disney-related things, because my mind wanders...
  • A large billboard space used to advertise upcoming stuff in the parks, built against the backside of some natural land left in from before construction; the one time it appeared in my dream, it was used for something related to DCA and possibly Cars... so, I guess Cars Land?
  • Hosted a stamp rally type event one time
  • A Disney parks con was also hosted one time in Downtown Disney, at some kind of big convention space they have there apparently. I attended and there was a lot to do. Felt kind of like a Disney E3 in some cases. I think there was even some kind of Smash Bros game announced there? But maybe that was a different dream.
  • Had some kind of late night, midnight Tron Legacy event where you could get inside a light cycle (had the interior design of the original cycle designs, but had a Legacy black color scheme) and experience the movie that way. Or maybe it was a sneak peek for an upcoming ride. All I know is that I dreamt about it and it felt insanely real.

Magic Kingdom (Back to Top)

Magic Kingdom is not my home park so my dreams about it are varied and weird. I am not sure I really have any specific "version" of it, so here's just some specific things that have cropped up:

Magic Kingdom Summer Camp // ??? (Back to Top)

I was a part of a summer camp type thing in this dream, where you can sign up and be taken to WDW as a part of the program and shown behind the scenes-esque things. Here, we took a monorail into Magic Kingdom and saw:

  • Some kind of theatre behind the scenes thing as we were on the monorail; the monorail passed through the building it was held at so we got a sneak peek of it, and it was cool but I'm not a theatre kid so it was whatever.
  • Space Mountain was like a sphere or something, or at least the interior building was like a big ball shape. The ride inside was not super cramped. We got to view it with the lights on from these exterior positions that were on the border of this sphere room. Inside, I noticed an easter egg that you would never have noticed while on the ride: ...crystalline replicas of the heads of the members of N*SYNC. I could not tell you why I dreamt this.
  • Galaxy's Edge was not open at this time in my dream, and was a part of Magic Kingdom instead of DHS. I think my brain was applying Disneyland-isms to this, since home park and all. So, we got a chance to stop through here and get a glimpse of the upcoming land, and we were all very excited.
  • I stayed at some kind of camp-themed resort area. At night, there was a party I semi-attended. Then, I got stalked and nearly attacked by a werewolf.

Fantasmic on MK Tom Sawyer Island // Fantasmic! (Back to Top)

Not much to say here, just that this was a Magic Kingdom that had Fantasmic on their Tom Sawyer Island. Much bigger than Disneyland's, and the effects were very impressive and cool. Ursula had a very important role in this version of the show.

Fireworks Game // Original Show (Back to Top)

This is hard to explain, but this was a weird Magic Kingdom that had a back end of the park that had a viewing area overlooking a lake of some kind. You could go all the way up to the beach edge of the lake too. Fireworks shot off here, but before each show, there was some kind of game held where you had to collect flags on the ground in various colors: black was the most important color, but I remember there being other colors too, including red. I can't remember what this accomplished, just that it was a part of the fireworks experience.

The Retro Future Epcot (Back to Top)

This version of Epcot is very stuck to the ideas of what made it great in the 80s – edutainment, ahoy. Being here makes me very happy, and I'm always excited to explore it and see if I can find anything else now.

The look of the place is very smooth and futuristic, but there's also some art deco inspiration in the building designs. It gives me big World's Fair vibes, too. Super cool, stark white, lots of large, glass windows. The whole thing is built out in the middle of the ocean and requires you to take a boat to get to it. Even with the variants I've visited of this version of Epcot, there is always a boat ride required to get there, no matter its distance from dry land.

Spaceship Earth is still the entrance eyecatch, though its size sort of varies dream by dream. I wish details were more bountiful, but I can have a hard time thinking of specific areas of the park... though I can remember a specific area that was a decent little bay area. There was a ferris wheel nearby and then there was also a little spinning boat ride that was out in the center, kind of like the old water carousel ride at Legoland.

Information Hall // Original Attraction (Back to Top)

The "Information Hall", as I'm going to call it, was a big indoor exhibit that you can explore to find out basically whatever you ever might want to know – but, like in an educational way and not a "I want to know the future" or "I want to know things humanity should never know" way. So, you can learn about the things that interest you.

There was only really one dream where I explored this, and it basically amounted going to an area in the exhibit, where you could find little screens built into the walls. These would play based on a specific topic, and were also maybe drawers of some kind? I think there was a handle and you could pull them out and mess with some interactive stuff. It makes no sense logically.

In one dream, there was a set time limit you were allowed to be in there. If you took too long, you started to de-age. My parents got lost in there because it was huge in that dream, and so I got very stressed out about how I might have to deal with them as tiny kids all because they couldn't find their way back.

Fitness Sit Down Show // Original Attraction (Back to Top)

This is attached to some kind of Wonders of Life-esque pavilion that I really wanted to visit in one of my dreams. In order to get inside, though, you had to sit through some kind of fitness-themed show. Might have also been a dark ride, or a theatre show akin to Carousel of Progress? I'm not sure, all I remember is that it was kind of uninteresting and I just wanted to get into the pavilion proper, and we had to evacuate due to some situation and I was very annoyed by this.

The Waterfront Epcot (Back to Top)

This is a weird version of Epcot that seems to be primarily focused on World Showcase, rather than the way that Retro Future Epcot seems to focus primarily on Future World. I guess I'm not too surprised that my brain has sort of divided between the two, because I tend to be more interested in Future World Epcot, so this is it trying to maybe even it out back in World Showcase's favor. Or something like that.

This is an Epcot that is built out in a ring shape that goes out over the ocean, but with connecting access from land nearby. So, you enter while on dry land, then the Showcase leads you out on this circular path to the different pavilions, which have unique exhibits you can walk through. I think I remember there was some kind of Egypt pavilion with a pyramid structure?

The Point & Click Epcot (Back to Top)

Point and Click Epcot... how do I describe this. Well, let's start with the name. I call it Point and Click Epcot because the layout and structure and everything gives me the same vibes as a 90s point and click PC game. This actually feels really apt to 80s/90s Epcot, so it's a pretty natural fit, if you ask me.

I don't really remember any specifics about layout, about what was available and able to be visited. Not sure there was a Spaceship Earth. But the park was vast, with a lot of walls and buildings, like it was one big huge maze. Lots of marble flooring, but also each area had its own vibe and theme and material the floors and buildings were made of. You could walk out to one end of the park and you'd be able to look out over to the other side.

The one major thing I remember was that there was a large, angular black building that looked like if the Horizons building and the Imagination Pavilion had a baby. Inside was some kind of experience, like a game type thing, but I can't remember specifics, just that I went inside and there was a lot of waiting around to do what you came to do.

The Hollywood Studios with The Pit (Back to Top)

There've been a couple of other Hollywood Studios that my dreams have made but none have been very impressive or interesting... aside from this one.

The entrance area of the park is one big rectangular square, with another, thinner one running perpendicular through it. Shops and buildings line the sides of this shape; the eyecatch here, though, is a large square pit in the largest rectangle, lowered down for performances. Their version of Fantasmic is performed here; during the show, a floating platform appears above, about level with height at which you stand to watch, and you can look there or down below for all of the action of the show.

Miscellaneous Rides Not Tied to a Specific Land (Back to Top)

In this case, I don't think this ride was a part of this Hollywood Studios... this may have been a California Adventure ride, too, but I think it fits better here? So, I could be wrong...

Disney History Tram Tour Ride // Original Ride

A tram tour ride type thing, in a PeopleMover-esque vehicle/track. Went in and outdoors, through various buildings, showing off history and information about some Disney movies. I think there was a whole set piece dedicated to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? There was a very noir inspired part.

The World's Largest Animal Kingdom (Back to Top)

This is like a national park size Animal Kingdom that has no rides and is just giant nature preserves for all of the animals. The only thing I really remember aside from the size was there was a really nice space with fountains and pavement that I think was the entrance or a connecting space to an indoor aquarium. The locale where the park was was pretty crazy, a lot of paths had bluffside views of the area and everything, it all looked like a place that would be in a painting or whatever. Very otherworldly.

The Only Tokyo Disneyland I've Ever Dreamt Of (Back to Top)

In this dream I remember walking through a few areas of this park: Fantasyland and Galaxy's Edge. In Fantasyland there were a lot of setpieces for people to explore/play with; distinctly I remember there being an Alice in Wonderland play area with monkey bars. There were a lot of meet and greets going on, and I got to interact with a Jafar and... I think a Cruella? There was a female character with Jafar, and Jafar was like a mix of him and Hades. That's all I remember.

Galaxy's Edge didn't have much going on, just really nicely decorated spaces that felt Star Wars enough to me in my dream.

The main thing about this dream for me was that I was trying to track down a specific book that had just come out about LGBT cast members and their history/contribution to the parks, which was odd because I was in Japan... why would they have a book in English there...
